周末结束了

刚刚追完一部十二集的日本动画。
动画是改篇自1984年的著名电子冒险游戏。

主角们很讨喜,就像身边的朋友。
系列完结时,心里有股空空洞洞的感触,
很像离别。

你会吗?

Teoh

Since our friend put it in FB first, I'm going to race her to announce this in blogspot.

Teoh Seet Heng is the only Teoh in the entire Fleishman-Hillard network of more than 2,000 employees worldwide.

YES! Done. A moment of I'm proud to be a Malaysian Chinese.

***

Since we are on the topic, my surname 张 is pronounced as Zhang in Mandarin. It is a very common surname among Chinese, and is the 24th surname on 百家姓 (Book of Family Names), after 何 (He) 吕(Lv) 施 (Shi), and is followed by 孔 (Kong), 曹 (Cao), 严 (Yan), 华 (Hua).

If you must know, the number one surname on the list is 赵(Zhao), that is because the book was compiled during the Song Dynasty and the emperor then was 赵匡胤 (Zhao Kuang Yin), so obviously he got the first place. Politics... Zzzz.

So anyway, forget about the Zhao guy, my surname is pronounced differently in different parts of China, by different ethnics, using different dialects. The southeners such as TeoChew and Hokkien Chinese pronounce it as Teo, like Deo with a T. And they call my dad Lao Teo (Old Teoh), until I succeed it. One day, hopefully not so soon :P

When my ancestors came to Malaysia, they speak nothing except TeoChew or Hokkien, not even Mandarin. So the foreign ID officers back then will just have to guesstimate the spelling.

And that is how variations such as Teoh, Teo, Teow come about. It also became a way for Malaysian Chinese to identify which part of China he or she comes from. Like since I'm a Teoh, that makes me a TeoChew from TeoChew Province, east of GuangDong Region. Famous Teohs in Malaysia includes Adrianna Teoh, Lina Teoh and Seet Teoh.

So if you ask how many Zhang is in FH network, the answer is seven. One in Malaysia (me), two in Singapore and four in Beijing. Having said that, I wouldn't know if they are the same Zhang as me (张),or they could be 章 which is an entirely different word, but pronounced similarly.

But there is only one Teoh, and that is me!

Wow I certainly went a big circle to tell you that. LOL.

Edited: Just found out that the two 张 in Singapore are 'Teo', my 'Teoh" remains unique! Ha ha。 ha.

The Great Escapade: My Fun Travel with MAS!

When stress and dirty shoes were piling up, three friends planned to escape from routine. The idea was simple; go to somewhere near but not too near, at least inaccessible by colleagues, and preferably out of the country.

One of them needs retail therapy, one wished for comfort, while the other thinks erected polo shirt collars is so yesterday.

So they scratched their head and convened.

A: I think we should take a flight, instead of bus. Saw that accident in papers today?
B: Yeah, you are right.
C: Totally.
A: Okay, check out this "Kids Fly Free" package, it says we purchase two tickets, and get one free for the little one.
B: Who is the little one?
C: I want Choki-choki.
A: See.
B: But “retard-ness” doesn’t count, age does!
A: How old are you kid?
C: The same as you punk.
B: Ok, get serious, "80% Discount" package looks good, it says 80% off domestic and ASEAN destination.
C: O.o
A: Cool~ more money to shop!
B: And massage!
C: And food!
A, B, C: YEAY!
B: How about "Economy Plus", enjoy business class privileges and comfort with an Economy Class ticket?
A: We should get that for return.
C: I second that!
B: Good idea, A, you mind to hunt down the tickets?
A: Cool.
C: So where are we going?

Where ever that place was, I’m sure they had a good time. Well, above all I remember what C said after the trip- Man! That was great. This truly is the time to travel!

Yes or No,瞬间结束,大快人心。

Having said that,我不担保会准。(PR人喜欢说having said that,因为喜欢留后路)

MINI X LOMO

The films for MINI Lomography shoot done in Putrajaya is finally out! Yeay~

...

Ok, I lied, I got them about a week ago and procrastinated until now to post it up. So may I humbly present to you five of my favourite shots!

For this shoot, I used Konica Chrome Slides, courtesy of Alarm (Practical birthday gifts! Awesome~).

To be honest, I think the colour is great, but really difficult to use. As you can see, the result is grainy even though it was a bright sunny day.

Gasp, Fisheye 2 is so damn cool. It made me broke, it makes me happy :)

If you drive a MINI, you can park anywhere.

Or you can park decently, and show the car behind he needs to retake his parking test.

Aiya, I mean his or her driving test, I shouldn't be a sexist.

There are some more pictures here.

Alarm posted his work in Lomography Asia forum and was selected as the Lomohome of the Week. WAH~

I don't think he will mind. This is the winning pix:

可乐

错误示范:

这几天,网络生病了。(就是很慢的意思)

虽然没舍重要事,但我还是很郁闷。(想说没得上网,很无聊)

把味觉托付给黑色的有汽甜酱, (很无聊,所以喝可乐)

享受胀气打嗝的起承转合。(喝了可乐,然后打嗝)

今晚,我只是抿着鼻涕的小男孩。(喝可乐让我快乐得像小孩子一样)

p/s: 写完了觉得整段很no point,请大家多多包涵。

The Fisheye View of Sandakan

In my line of work, one is blessed with opportunity to visit places where under any normal circumstances wouldn’t have the chance to. But what is normal anyway? Visiting Sandakan might be ‘out of place’ for me, but for scores of others, it could be part of their annual, monthly or even weekly ‘balik kampung’ ritual.

Anyway, I was on a trip to Sandakan with Kenny Sia and Gareth (Shaolin Tiger) last weekend for the launch of MAS Kuala Lumpur-Sandakan direct flight. We visited the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre and spent a day on the Kinabatangan River bank.

Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre

River folk in Kinabatangan River.

So during the trip, I brought along my new FishEye2. This funky looking thing was my birthday gift bought a week ago, by guess who, myself. Retail therapy (Thanks Geeps) is effective and inevitable since I worked on top of the most popular mall in Malaysia. For those unfamiliar with lomocam, this baby runs on film.

Armed with a roll of ISO 400 film, I happily embraced the number one lomography philosophy- don’t think just shoot. It wasn’t easy, transitioning from SLR (yes without the D) to this toy like snap-shot device. I can’t zoom, can’t do focusing, even the shutter sounded surreal to me. Everything needs to be guesstimated- lighting, distance, framing... I have no choice but to just. let. go.

The result?

Fisheye guide book says, this is the way gold fish and lomographers see and live life.

To which Kelvin Lim said: “Does that mean you live with five seconds memory?”

I agree with both. Whole-heartedly.

P/S: Yay, MAS posted it in their blog!
